Discussing this hot button issue that many animal parents may be faced with can leave us feeling an array of emotions. Experiencing an animal with these types of emotional issues can leave you feeling out of control, frustrated and overwhelmed. I’m saddened to say that many animals are surrendered due to the fact that their guardians don’t know what to do or most importantly, who to turn to for help. In this situation, not all hope is lost there are a number of things we can do once we see that the animal needs help, understanding, patience and love.
As an animal lover and empath, I don’t see why we would treat our human child and animal child any different. There are tools and solutions that animal parents must know when we take in animals and make part of the family. We don’t surrender our kids and we don’t give up on them. Here we will discuss one approach we can take through zoopharmacognosy to help our furry balls of fury!
Zoopharmacognosy has been shown to be quite effective even in hostile wild animals like tigers, this shows great promise for our beloved cats and dogs as well. There are a number of essential oils that have been proven to help calm angry and dominant behaviour.
These include:
- Hops Essential Oil
- Vetiver Essential Oil
- Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
- Sweet Marjoram Essential Oil
- Rose Essential Oil
- Vanilla Essential Oil
- Valerian Essential Oil
In this case, it’s best to have the scents present throughout the whole day. Remember to always dilute your essential oils when applying topically and make sure you only use pure and high quality oils. With cats you may want to stick with objects rather than topical applications, they tend to be more sensitive. You can also apply a drop of essential oil on a bandana to tie around their neck at home and or on walks. They can also be applied on their bed or toys as well. Allow them to select the essential oil they are most drawn to before applying them. As for the essential oils, I highly recommend Young Living. Their quality is second to none.
Other things that you can do for anger and dominant behaviour in animals is by offering habitat enrichment and boredom busters, using additional remedies like animal rescue remedy. Speaking with a holistic veterinarian or practitioner to set up a herbal program as a long-term plan if your animals is struggling with emotional issues. Herbal infusions or powdered herbs can be added to their food or water. Energy medicine and animal reiki can also help significantly to clear blocked energies and it will also give a great amount of insight as to where the animal is spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. It gives the opportunity for your animal to be heard and validated.
In the case of anger and dominant behaviour, it could be caused by a number of things like a health issue, diet, anxiety, pain and so on. I would recommend a consultation so that we can discover what is at the heart of the anger and dominance.
